Techy gifts for gadget lovers.
Know someone who uses their iPhone too much? An Apple Watch could help, or potentially, just make the problem worse. Either way, the Apple Watch is a nifty little wearable that blends fitness tracker with communication device. Sure, it's a luxury, but it's a nice one.
Apple Watch starts at $399 for a 38mm aluminium Series 1 Watch. This has the same features as the original Apple Watch, but with a faster processor. The Series 2 Watch starts at $599, adding in a brighter screen, swim-proofing, and GPS.
Fitbit Flex 2
If you want to get someone a fitness tracker for Christmas, the Fitbit Flex 2 is a great basic option. 30% slimmer than the original Flex, the Flex 2 is about as unobtrusive as a fitness tracker can be. Battery life lasts up to 5 days, and it's water-resistance as deep as 50m, making it the first Fitbit that can track your swim.
The Flex 2 is also fashion friendly; optional gold, rose gold, and silver accessories transform it from an elastomer band into a blinged out bangle or necklace.
Just make sure whoever you're giving the Flex 2 to doesn't take it the wrong way!
Nespresso Prodigio & Milk
Know someone who can't start the day without a cup of coffee? The Nespresso Prodigio & Milk is a Bluetooth coffee machine that can make life a little easier thanks to its ability to brew coffee at a scheduled time.
Of course, you do have to load the machine and put a cup under the spout before you go to bed, but that's a small price to pay for the joy of waking up to a fresh mug of joe.
LIFX Generation 3 Smart Bulb
LIFX's Generation 3 Smart Bulbs are the perfect way to make someone's home a little smarter. While part of LIFX's appeal is the ability to set the bulb to any colour of the rainbow, you're also able to schedule the lights to turn on or off at certain times, even when you're not home.
An individual bulb will set you back about $80, but you'll save a bit of money if you buy two or more. Everyone gets a light bulb this Christmas! Just make sure you get the right kind of bulb their socket.
Belkin MIXIT Power Pack 6600
Belkin's MIXIT Power Pack 6600 is a bit of a pragmatic gift for that friend who can never keep their phone alive. The power back has a 6,600mAh battery, which will recharge a 4.7-inch iPhone about three times, and a 5.5-inch iPhone 6 and most Android smartphones twice.
Notably, Belkin says that you're able to top up the MIXIT itself about 40% faster than a conventional battery pack.
Samsung Gear Fit 2
Samsung's Gear Fit 2 is a happy compromise between a fitness tracker and a smartwatch. In addition to a full suite of fitness features (including heartrate monitoring and sleep tracking), the Gear Fit 2 can display notifications from any app on your phone. It is also rated IP68 for water resistance, which means it can safely be submerged as deep as 1.5 metres for as long as half an hour. Notably, the Gear Fit 2 works with almost any recent Android smartphone, not just Samsung devices.
Pixel Live Case
Know someone lucky enough to own a Google Pixel? Liven their phone up with a customised "Live" case. Google lets you design a case using artworks, photos, and locations from Google Maps, but if none of that works, you can upload your own instead. I mean, haven't your friends always wanted a phone case with your face on it?
