Christmas Gift Guide: Entertainment and Gaming!

29 November 2016

We've all got a friend who watches too much TV or plays too many video games. Sure, you might want them to cut back, but that's what New Year's Resolutions are for. In the mean time, here are some gift ideas that may very well help enable their media-filled lifestyles.

Google Chromecast

Google's Chromecast is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to get your favourite streaming services off your phone and onto your TV. Chromecast plugs into the back of a TV, connects to your Wi-Fi, and is compatible with Netflix, Stan, YouTube, Google Play, Spotify and more!

If you've got friends or family with a 4K TV, it might also be worth considering the 4K-ready Chromecast Ultra.

From $59

Apple TV (Fourth Generation)

The fourth generation Apple TV is a nifty little streaming box with apps from Netflix, Stan, and every free-to-air TV network in Australia. Unique features include Siri voice search for finding favourite shows and movies, and access to the App Store.

From $229

Xbox One S

The Xbox One S is a lean, mean entertainment machine. Not only is it the cheapest 4K Blu-Ray Player on the market, it has streaming apps for Netflix and Stan, and a pretty solid game library to boot.

From $399

PlayStation VR

If you want to spoil a PlayStation fan, look no further than the PlayStation VR. PlayStation VR is a virtual reality headset designed especially for the PlayStation 4 and offers an immersive new experience where it can genuinely feel like you're inside the game.

Note: PlayStation VR also requires a PlayStation 4 Camera, which is sold separately.

Pokémon Sun & Moon

Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are the latest instalments in the long running catch 'em up. The games are built in Pokémon's tried and true (and addictive) formula, but Sun and Moon goes against the status quo enough to make the new adventures actually feel new.

Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are available for 3DS, are also compatible with 2DS handhelds.

Overwatch is easily our multiplayer title of the year. The game is a multiplayer class-based first person shooter by Blizzard, best known for the likes of World of Warcraft and Diablo. Much like World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, Overwatch takes a complicated genre and makes it accessible - without sacrificing depth.

Overwatch has a massive cast of 23 unique characters, each with their own individual playstyles. There's a variety of gun-toting death machines, but there's also characters focused more on melee, healing, or close-range combat, which is great for those who aren't normally fans of shooters. It's the perfect gift for anyone who needs a new online addiction.

Overwatch is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows.
