Silverlight Streaming Not Working with Stan? Here's the fix

12 March 2015

If your Stan stream isn’t working thanks to some pesky Silverlight bug, you’re not alone. It’s a very common issue, with a surprisingly easy fix.

First, you need to make sure you actually have the Silverlight plugin installed on your browser. The location is different depending on which one you’re using, so try a web search for “Microsoft Silverlight plugin download” and see what you get. If possible, try to download it from an official source.

If you already have it installed, but it still isn’t working, then try one of these solutions.

In Chrome, type chrome://plugins/ (minus the quotation marks) in to your address bar.

Scroll down until you find the Silverlight section. If you can’t find it, hit Ctrl+f and start typing “Silverlight”.

If it is disabled, enable it. Lastly, make sure the Always allowed box is ticked.

Now you should be good to go. If Stan still isn’t working, try restarting your browser.

Internet Explorer

Select Tools at the top left of your browser. If the tool bar is not visible, hit Alt and it should appear.

Go to Manage Add-ons and select Toolbars and Extensions in the left-hand pane. At the bottom of this pane, open the drop-down menu and select All add-ons.

Find Microsoft Silverlight and make sure its status is set to Enabled. If it is not, click Enable in the bottom right of the pop-up window.

If it was already enabled, you may need to uninstall and re-install Microsoft Silverlight.

Mozilla Firefox

Firefox is updated very regularly, so if these steps don’t perfectly fit your version then try and find something that sounds or looks similar.

Make sure your Menu Bar is enabled. If you don’t have File, Edit, View, History, etc at the top of your browser, then it may not be. Find a free space up the top and right click, then click on Menu Bar .

Select Tools, then Add-ons. On the left, select Plugins. Now select Silverlight Plug-In. On the right, there is a drop-down menu with Never Activate, Ask to Activate, Always Activate as options. Select either Ask to Activate or Always Activate.

If you choose Ask to Activate , Firefox will continue to automatically block Sliverlight from doing its thing. The next time you go to Stan, or a website that uses Silverlight, a drop-down box will appear near your address bar. Make sure you click Allow… and then Allow and Remember, so that you don’t have to do this every time. Selecting Always Activate will skip this necessity.
